For Reddit Ads

People come here to decide, and deciding takes longer than a reporting window.

Export your Reddit leads, match them against closed sales over a window that fits the decision, and see the channel where its effect actually lands.

Reddit Ads sits on the lead side in CloseRev: export the leads its campaigns produced and match them against closed sales from whichever system holds them. Reddit's audience is unusually often at the research stage — comparing, asking, reading other people's experiences — so a short attribution window structurally under-reports it. Revenue with no traceable lead is reported as Direct / Unknown.

The gap

The thirty-day report says the channel produced nothing, and the sales team keeps hearing the platform's name on calls.

Reddit Ads sees

What was sold, to whom, and for how much.

no shared row
Your ad account sees

The click, the keyword, the call, and what each one cost.

The file

What the export needs in it.

Three things carry the match: who, how much, and when. Anything else is optional and only changes how the report can be sliced.

  1. Needed

    Lead phone or email

On the lead form export or your own landing-page record carrying the campaign.

  2. Needed

    Campaign and community targeting

Which communities an ad set targeted. In this channel that is closer to a segment than to a placement, and it moves results more than creative does.

  3. Needed

    Lead date

When the lead arrived. Given the lag here, this column does more work than on any other advertising page in this catalogue.

  4. Optional

    Ad format

Conversation placements and feed placements produce different people. Worth keeping where the export offers it.

Step by step

Getting the file out of Reddit Ads.

Written for somebody with Reddit Ads open in the next tab. Report names vary by edition, so each step says what to look for.

  1. Export the leads with a contact detail

Lead form downloads or your own form records stamped with the campaign.

  2. Export closed sales

One row per sale with a contact detail, the amount and the date. The system it came from does not matter.

  3. Use a long window and say so

Ninety days is a floor here and six months is often right. The decision is to use a longer rule for this channel than for search, and to write down that you did.

  4. Keep the community targeting

It is the closest thing this channel has to a keyword, and revenue usually varies more across communities than across creatives.

  5. Upload both

The join runs on the phone and the email, normalised, with unmatched leads kept visible.

What comes back

The page Reddit Ads cannot show you.

Revenue by channel, the count of sales behind each figure, and an honest bucket for the ones nobody could trace. Sample figures, from the worked example on the B2B SaaS page — not from a Reddit Ads account.

Traced to a channel$2,070,00069% of $3,000,000
Sales matched51 of 75high confidence only
Average sale$40,000per paid sale

Google Ads18$720,000
LinkedIn Ads21$930,000

Unmatched sales stay in Direct / Unknown. They are never spread across the paid channels to make the total look better.

The argument

What changes when the lead and the ad share a row.

A short window does not measure this channel, it hides it

Somebody reading a thread about which contractor, which software or which clinic is at the start of a decision, not the end of one.

Measured over thirty days against a search channel that catches people at the moment of purchase, this one will report close to nothing, every time, whatever it actually produced.

That is not evidence the channel failed. It is evidence the rule was copied from a channel with a different job.

Running a longer window for this channel is legitimate as long as it is stated and applied consistently. What is not legitimate is a longer window only for the channel somebody wants to keep — so the report records the window used per source, in the report.

Community targeting behaves more like a segment than a placement

An ad set aimed at a professional community and one aimed at a hobbyist community can share creative, budget and bidding and produce entirely different businesses.

The platform reports both as ad sets with a cost per result, which flattens the most informative variable the channel has.

Splitting closed revenue by the communities targeted usually separates them sharply, and it is the finding that most often turns a failed test into a working channel.

It also identifies the communities worth engaging with rather than advertising into, which is a different budget and often a better one.

Self-reported attribution is worth collecting here and is not a substitute

This is one of the channels people name unprompted — on a call, in a form field, in an email — because they remember reading about you rather than clicking an advert.

That signal is real and it is the only trace some of this revenue leaves. Captured in a field at intake, it becomes a source label like any other and ranks on the same money.

It is also unreliable in the usual ways: people misremember, and the last thing they saw is not always what decided them.

So the report keeps it as its own labelled source rather than merging it into the paid channel's number. Two imperfect signals reported separately are more useful than one blended figure that looks precise.

What honest failure looks like here

Some tests of this channel genuinely do not work, and the report should be able to say so rather than always finding a window in which it did.

That is why the window is set once for the whole file and stated: a rule chosen after seeing the results is not a measurement.

Where the leads exist and no sales follow them over six months, the channel did not produce revenue, and that is a clean answer worth having quickly.

The failure the report is designed to prevent is the opposite one — concluding that in thirty days, when the decision takes four months.

Fair questions

“Reddit Ads already does that.” Not quite.

They say

“The platform reports no conversions.”

We say

On its window and its pixel. If your sale closes offline three months later, neither could have seen it.

They say

“A longer window for one channel is unfair.”

We say

It would be, if chosen after the fact. Set per channel in advance, stated in the report, and applied to every file, it is just a rule that matches the purchase.

They say

“Our audience is not on there.”

We say

Possibly. The communities split answers that directly, and quickly.

Questions

Reddit Ads, specifically.

Something else? Ask us and a person answers.

No. It reads a file you downloaded; your campaigns, audiences and account settings stay where they are.

Reddit Ads and the other product names and logos on this page belong to their owners and are shown to identify the software a file comes from. CloseRev is not affiliated with or endorsed by them, and connects to none of them: it reads a file you export.
